Memoirs of an Entrepreneur

Today I want us to talk about the kind of business that is aligned to God's principals. I have been a partner with KCM for over 40 years now. As you can see I am also reposting articles from their blog to also encourage us on certain topics of faith. My faith journey began with them when I realised that I was going to be a single parent and had the sole responsibility of bringing up my child. With nothing on me I took the teachings of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and put faith into action and saw God opened doors and did amazing things in my life and he still continues to amaze me.

So what is the foundation to build a faith base business;

Have a Vision.

This dream to be a business woman has been in me since I was a child. However it does not matter when we start the bottom line is have a clear vision. God says so in his word. Having a clear vision and aligning your vision to the word of God will keep you rooted and grounded and provide you a strong foundation that keeps you aligned to his principals,

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Create a Strong Business Plan

A solid business plan will provide you the roadmap to build your vision on. Write down your objectives, strategies and above all your financial plans. It is so important that you have a strong finance plan because at some stages in your journey you will need to be frugal on your spending. With a well thought out plan you can size opportunities, navigate challenges and focus on your goals.

Proverbs 21:5
The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty..

Strong Leadership Skills

You need strong leadership skills to guide your business well. A knowledgeable leader will have the knowledge to lead guide and also have empathy and have the ability to make tough decisions in challenging times. You will need to be diligent in how you manage your team, your finances and your business operations. Leaning where to tighen the purse where it needs to and celebrate successes when it requires.

Proverbs 27:23-24

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds

for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.

Have a Mentor

Find someone in the community that you can reach out to. It can be your peer or someone from the local business community. Mentors makes it easy for us to reach out to and ask questions and find answers in challenging times. With their expertise they can guide and help you emulate their success. It is also refreshing on your mental health when you have someone you can reach out to when you need to.

Proverbs 11:14

For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.

Have a Faith Approach

There is nothing more satisfying than building your business on solid christian faith. That means you spend time in prayer and in the word seeking God on how you will run your business. Every decision you make it has to be based on the word of God. It means continuously seeking him in every aspect of your business. One greatest tool that I use all the time is praying in tongues. That is a powerful tool to dowload from heaven whatever you need to guide you on this entrepreniel journey. Continuously seek God's wisdom and counsel.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight

Continue to seek God and don't let situations and circumstances make you doubt God's ability to help you. Continuosly seek him and hold onto his word he will never never fail you. Godbless

My Mother's Story (Mercia Paliou)

On this International Woman's Day, I wanted to share my mum's story on her journey and her aspirations in life. To also give us a glimpse into what life was like back then and what they did to build the young PNG nation. I would not be where I am today if she did not first embark on her own journey of education, career marriage and life.   My mother's journey began in her village of Dogur in the Dagua LLG of the East Sepik Province. She was born on the 6th of September 1947. She already had 5 older siblings and she was the 5th born with 2 others after her. Born to parents who were subsistence farmers their lives revolve around fishing, gardening, hunting and gathering food to feed the family. A typical village day would consist of women going to the garden, to work on their vegetables patches whilst the man would go hunting/setting traps for bandicoot or fishing in the small creeks, rivers or the sea. Their stable diet is sago so each family has their own sago plots in th...

Toana Dei & Meri Blouse

On April 28 1978, the government declared that Friday should be set aside as a national dress day.  Citizens were encourage to wear their cultural wear to work or school. The day was referred to as Toana day. The thinking behind that day was to encourage cultural embracement and initiate a national wear which in time will take on its style and become the national wear for contemporary PNG.  Toana is from the motuan language 3rd widely spoken language in PNG and it means a symbol or a sign. A fitting word to signify the day. I am taking up this space again to feature one piece of unique clothing that has come to make its mark in PNG known as the Meri Blouse.Little did they envisage what the meri blouse would become to PNG woman. And meri blouse was introduce by Missionaries to help cover bare breast woman in the colonial days. Highly criticise as shapeless and without form created to hide the beautiful curvy body of Melanesian woman meri blouse has stood its time and held it's ...

Memoirs of an Entrepreneur (Pricing)

Pricing is something that most of us take for granted. Am not sure if you really think about price apart from when there is a price increase. Have you ever wondered how people price goods and services and what should be the correct way of pricing your items. If you price too high you will loose customers and if you price too low then you will not make a profit so there is a place where you need to come too rightly to price items. As a christian there is also God's pespective on pricing. The book of levitcus is where God instructed the Isrealites on how to price items 26: 14  And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbour, or buyest ought of thy neighbour’s hand, ye shall not oppress one another:  God is very clear he does not want us to oppress another brother by putting our price too high that they struggle to buy our item and if they do they forgo other necessecities that they need in life. When you are pricing your good or service what is the first thing that comes to min...
