UNITED WE STAND AND DIVIDED WE FALL

This week has been rampage by the defence saga what has come out in this situation and highlighted to all of PNG was the high number of candidates recruited from one region alone as compared to the rest of the other regions. Our nation is so unique in the sense that our 4 regions represent such unique traditions, customs flora, fauna and even humans with each distinctive features and characters.

When I grew up in the 80's our home was open to PNG. We went to church with PNG our church fasmily were like our own family, we played together, ate together prayed together worshipped together and did things as one people united by God and the beautiful nation we are in.

My father and mother loved people from PNG so there was no nepotisim or prefering one province or region over the other. People from all walks of life and province and region had a plcae in out home. When I started work my views were the same. I had employees from PNG. I never choose one region over the other. Nor did I favour my Sepik and Manus Wantoks over other proinvces.

It is very sad that at the very national level in the government we see policy holders and men who should be representing the views of the collective PNG choosing their own province and region over other provinces. Is this the kind of PNG we are embaking on. Are we truely serious about creating a united PNG?

As an educated nation let us all ask ourselves these questions? Am I creating a PNG for my children and grand chidlren or am I creating a PNG that is divided and prefers one race one region one province over the other. Why do we fall back into this selfish and greedy mentality that I am here only to serve the interest of my people, my region and my province. This was not the mentality of our forefathers sadly we have reverted backwards and not push forward with their dreams and vision of a unted PNG.

The government during the 50 Years celebration wanted all provincial flags to be removed and only 1 flag to be flown which is the flag of PNG. But yet we see in the highest level the government a vital institution that should protect the interest of the nation being compromised to favour only one region. Are we here to serve only one region or to serve the interest of PNG.

As PNGeans lets us ask ourselves this questions and start to think if we continue down this road where will we be heading to? Are we are recruiting based on merit or nepotisim giving ne region more favour over the other regions. We all know where this will lead us to. This will make the rest of the provinces and regions want to break away and form their own country.

This madness of trying to create a superior region over the other regions will only resulted in a divided nation. And who would stand to loose the most if provinces start breaking awaying. We have intermarry and have relatives across this beautiful nation it is time we think of PNG as a whole and not being selfish to drive our own region and our own selfish agenda forward.

As for the coastal provinces it is time to speak up. If you see regionalisim being practiced either at the workplaces or any organisatoin please speak up.Let' change our mentality and work towards a united PNG, build PNG not your region. You stand as a Papua New Guinean first and then as your province your tribe and your family.

UNITED WE STAND AND DIVIDED WE FALL The bible says “Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” Ephesians 4:11-13. When we remain united we are also at peace with each other.

Let us pray that God will change this regional mentality and that we will all come together as one nation one country PNG.
