Do you realised that we have a big issue in our culture when it comes to savings? So many people in PNG live on dinau money (credit money). So today I would like to talk about the importance of having a savings culture. Savings is an issue with so many people. I recalled back to my days at the University as a lecturer I found out that the bettlenut vendors outside the Uni gate lend money to lecturers. It baffels my mind that the working class borrow money from the table market vendors. So savings is not an isolated issue to any one group in society. Even the educated/working class do have a hard time trying to save money.
How can we develop a savings attitude? As a Christian savings honors God. In the absence of savings then comes the spirit of poverty. God is big on savings his economy operates on seed time and harvest, that means you plant seeds you harvest the crops you eat what you need to eat and you plan the rest for the next harvest. That is basic kingdom living seed time and harvest. On top of that savings honors God and shows good stewardship.
Saving honors God because it rightly values money as a gift that he has given to us (James 1:16–17). Instead of unplanned, impulsive, or foolish spending, wise saving demonstrates the importance of stewarding his gifts (Luke 12:47–48).
If you eat all your seeds today then you will have absolutely none to plant for tomorrows harvest. That is how God's economy operates on seed time and harvest.
The basic fundamental to savings is have a budget and spend according to the budget. If an item is not part of that budget dont go spending money on it. And donot borrow to buy an item save your money and buy it when you have enough stack aside to afford it. Dont live to impress and tomorrow you have nothing in your wallet.
As a christian I will encourage you to also pay your tithes and offerings. It is so important that we give 1/10 of our income to God. When we give God he will protect our income and also give us the wisdom on how to use that income. He will help you develope a good attitude to money. The bible does not say money is bad, it has been taken out of content in interpretation, the bible says the LOVE of money is the root of all evil, money itself is a good thing without money noone can survive. How can we afford food clothing and shelter so money is good but when people love money too much they do all sorts of wicked things to get money.
Malachi 3: 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. {pour…: Heb. empty out} 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. {destroy: Heb. corrupt}
Sow your offerings into good soil, so that when the seed hits the ground it will sprout and bear fruit.
When it comes to entreprenuship from my experince have a frugal attitude when it comes to spending. Tighthen your purse and spend where is required. First create your assets and then create your liabilities. If you donot know where money will come from tomorrow to cater for a spend then the rightful thing to do is don't buy the item. Those who spend like no body's business will tomorrow face the blantant reality of having absolutely nothing in their purse. Have a fugal culture to spending but that also does not mean you live on tin fish all the time. Make sure you have a balance and celebrate life and success together but with the right attitude and choices then you will live a good life. Make money, spend money and save money. Start small and build your savings start at 20 toea if you need to but start on an amount that you can spare.
Again God wants the best for you and God has the best for you. Seek his wisdom in the area of finance and he will give you wisdom on how to use your financial knowledge to live this life he has called you to live.
Be blessed and continue to be a blessing to society and put money away for savings. Be a good steward when it comes to your finances.
